Roses do best when given a bed to themselves in an open part of the garden. The soil should be well broken up and plenty of cattle manure, compost or sphagnum peat worked into top 45cm (18in).

Hybrid Tea Rose - Chandos Beauty
This shell pink Hybrid Tea has blooms of 40 petals which open up in a spiralling whorl. The variety also has the added bonus of a most wonderful perfume, described by the breeder as being fruity and spicy. Growth of the plant is robust and wide, planting distance is recommended at 80cm (2.5 ft) making it suitable for beds and hedges.
